Bridging the Green Divide:

A Deep Dive into Turf Tech Advancements

turfcoach is renowned for its commitment to data-driven approaches and extensive research in turf management, catering specifically to the needs of groundsmen. The meticulous task of maintaining an impeccable playing surface is at the core of our mission, and we strive to empower groundsmen with cutting-edge technological solutions. In pursuit of this goal, we conducted a comprehensive survey last year, delving into the technological landscape of sports turf management.

This survey targeted premier football clubs in England, Germany, and Spain, ensuring a diverse representation. Upholding GDPR standards, we anonymized the data collected from 40+ participating clubs from the DACH region, UK, Spain and more.

Contrary to the misconception that groundsmen may be hesitant to adopt new technologies, our survey results debunked this notion. They revealed that most grounds management professionals incorporate technological tools into their daily routines and exhibit openness to embracing advancements in groundskeeping technology. Recognizing that such tools contribute not only to resource efficiency but also enhance the overall performance of grounds teams.

One notable finding from the survey is the widespread communication between coaching staff and groundsmen, underscoring the importance placed on pitch quality by performance departments across Europe. This acknowledgment of pitch quality as a crucial factor influencing optimal player performance reflects a positive trend, although there is room for further improvement in fostering this collaboration.

Our detailed report provides an in-depth exploration of the technologies employed by groundsmen, offering a regional breakdown to highlight variations and commonalities in preferences and opinions across the UK, DACH, and Spanish regions.
